Numbers Don't Lie

The re.web project site has received more than 13,000 hits since going live 9 months ago -- there have been 3,736 visits in August alone. This project clearly captures the attention of the W&M community.

Hits can be deceiving though. How many unique visitors?

Our current web architecture doesn't have the capability of counting unique visitors... hopefully this is one of the things the re.web project can correct!

Even if you assume that only half of the visits to the site are unique, I think the numbers are still impressive-- considering we have only 5,500 undergrads.

I think this fact is a clear illustration of the need to revamp the system. There are various widely used and free widgets available on the web (e.g., Statcounter) that allow you to track page hits, unique visitors, return visitors, and various other categories of use. Downloading and installing these things is a piece of cake, even for a tech-naive guy like me.
